Downtowner Motor Inn, “Dine With Us,” 1969
Back in 1969 we moved from Dallas to Costa Mesa, CA and drove all the way. This is one of my Dad’s old fuzzy slides, and I think we must have stayed at this motel on the way. Maybe El Paso or somewhere in New Mexico… I’m not sure. I need to ask my Dad. I see the Magnolia Oil (Mobil Oil) flying red horse on top of the building to the right of the motel sign.
Armstrong Asphalt Tile, 1954
Hideous basement design. Makes me glad we don’t have basements in Texas, except during tornado season! However with all the fracking earthquakes we’ve been having the last few years, I wonder if a basement is dangerous for that?
"So you married a play girl? Well, don’t let it throw you. So she does think eggplant is something you scramble … There’s always the restaurant."
Block Sportswear, 1947
Tomorrow will be 4 months since my near fatal fall on the ice. I still haven’t been released by my specialist and I’m still on limited duty at work. To say things have been rough would be an understatement. I had to close down my antique business because I could no longer physically keep up with it. I keep having depressive episodes and trying different meds but nothing seems to work. The rehab doctor said its normal for people to be depressed after an injury like mine, but already having a history of severe depression and suicide attempts just compounds it. I now wish I had died that day I fell on the ice four months ago.
Carol Burnett, Vicki Lawrence and guest star Dinah Shore in the 1977 “Went With the Wind” skit (a parody of the movie Gone with the Wind) on The Carol Burnett Show.
This has to be the funniest sketch in TV history!
