Art Deco Cookbook Covers, 1920s
Cookbooks by Ida Bailey Allen; Cover art by Carrie Dudley
I found these three gems in a box of old cookbooks that were going to be thrown away. Apparently the author Ida Bailey Allen was quite a celebrity in her day. Each of these cookbooks is about 7.5” square and 60 pages long.
(Each book has a silk hanging cord that I carefully removed to get a better scan of the amazing art deco covers. You can see the two holes near the top of each cover. I reattached the silk cords after scanning.)
Art deco portraits of a pilot, navigator, bombardier, and gunner painted by William Dean Fausett, oil on canvas, 1940s. These 6x4 foot paintings hang in the rotunda of the Randolph Air Force Base administration building in San Antonio, Texas.
This is my favorite part of Dallas, and it stands pretty much the same today as it did in this 1936 photograph. The Esplanade of State at the Texas Centennial Exposition in Dallas, Texas, 1936.
